What is a web address?

Let's see Web Addresses Further

This is an example of a Web Address. I hope this is a friendly website for you all. However, if you look at this link closer, you can observe a few clearly identifiable parts.

Starting from the left side, the first part (https://), we call the ”Internet Protocol”. Next, you have a sub-domain (open) and the last domain (facebook.com).

Domain refers to a location of a website. For example, google.com refers to the location of the google website stored.  Domain names end with .com, .lk, .uk, .gov and many more suffixes.

Subdomains are an extension of the domain. For example, facebook.com can have multiple subdomains. open.facebook.com and, video.facebook.com both have the same domain. That means both websites are in the same location. However, because of the difference in sub-domains, these two are 2 different websites. You will learn further about these domains and subdomains in coming up with Articles.

There are many domain name providers locally and globally. Depending on the purpose of your website, you can select the domain with .com, .us, .io, or many other options out there.

You can use a domain name provider such as Namecheap, GoDaddy, and porkbun, and check the availability of your desired domain name. If it is available, you can reserve it by purchasing it.
